We think your pace band can do more. It should help you plan ahead. Doesn’t it make more sense to plan for the hills and anticipate The Wall?
If it takes an extra 30 seconds to get up Heartbreak Hill at mile 21, you need to plan to run 10 seconds faster for 3 miles before you get to Newton.
We will create a set of Custom Pace Bands for 3 finish times to reflect your pacing strategy and your course.
We will adjust your Goal Pace to plan for the hills and for a pacing strategy (see below for more on pacing strategies). Visit our Pace Calculator to find your goal pace and try out our strategies.
We will check out your course and suggest adjustments for the terrain of your particular terrain. We have a catalog of over 40 races and will add your race or make further adjustments to ones we've already reviewed. We'll work with you to get it just right!

“Even pace” means you plan on running the same goal pace every mile. It’s fine if you can do it, but for most mortals, hitting goal pace at the end of the race is not always realistic. A pacing strategy helps you plan to build a cushion. There is also a strong argument for warming up the first few miles. Your body burns energy less efficiently before it is warmed up, so running goal pace right from the start eats up more fuel than goal pace later, energy you will need to keep from hitting the wall. So, we believe in planning a few gradual warm up miles. The Kansas City Marathon pacers use it and we are believers (read more on their pace strategy here). Our pace bands will combine a pace strategy (even pace or a warm up) with changes due to the course. You can use one of our strategies or suggest your own.
